Advanced Technology investigation on developing a seamless hair elastic. One of the issues with hair elastics is they can snag and pull hair at the metal coupling used to secure the braided elastic ends. Another issue with braided elastics that have a glue joint to secure the ends is that they can break easily if the glue is not placed on the cut ends cleanly. We investigated the potential use of a product called FiberLok which was a flocked fiber onto a stretchable substrate that could be used as an in-mold decorating swatch where it could chemically bond to an injected elastomer. The FiberLok material could be made to provide a variety of colors and graphic patterns that would enable fashionable designs to be developed per developing Fashion trends quickly. The elastomer would possess similar elastic stretch performance as current braided elastics. Unfortunately, the product did not launch due to cost and some performance constraints.
