Ink Injection Machine for reservoirs

I was tasked with getting a bench top ink injection machine used for filling reservoirs for markers (Sharpie, Berol, PrismaColor) that Chemist's could use for marker sample build out for quality testing. Chemists could use this unit to fill reservoirs faster then injecting manually with a syringe for testing quantities that can range from 10 to 5,000 reservoirs. The ink injection machine was an analog unit using pneumatic diaphragm pumps to inject new ink formulations but there was no control on the size of the ink shot to be injected and it was very difficult to control the air pressure to maintain consistent sample weights. I was essentially a project manager that was able to work with Georgia Automation to develop the ink injection machine using an electronic digital linear pump and a PLC software to control more accurately the pump injection speed, pressure, and position within the reservoir. On a very tight budget, I was successful in completing the project with an ink injection machine that was much easier for the Chemists to operate and prepare samples.
